Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 21, 2026

Totl is a local expense tracker. This policy explains what data the app stores, how it is used, and what choices you have.

What Totl stores

All data created in Totl is stored locally on your device in a private database. Nothing is transmitted to any server. The app has no account system and requires no sign-in.

Expenses
When you log an expense, Totl saves the amount, category, description, the original text you typed, and three timestamps: when the expense occurred, when it was first entered, and when it was last edited. This data exists only on your device.

Usage events
Totl records a small log of in-app actions — such as adding or deleting an expense — in a local database table on your device. These events are not sent anywhere.

Onboarding state
Totl stores a single flag in your device's local preferences to remember whether you have completed onboarding screens.

What Totl does not collect

Permissions

Totl may request limited device permissions only when needed for features such as CSV export or file sharing. These permissions are only used locally on your device and are never used to collect personal data.

Export

The CSV export feature packages your expense data into a file and opens your device's standard share sheet. What happens to that file after you share it is entirely your choice.

Data retention and deletion

Your data lives on your device for as long as you choose to keep it. You can delete all expenses at any time from Settings → Clear all data. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.
